IPL 2022 Start Date

The 2022 IPL edition will kick off on March 26, that is, just 11 days after Team India finishes its ongoing mission against Sri Lanka. Consisting of 70 matches, the league stage will be played at 4 venues in Mumbai and Pune with the final set to be played on May 29 in Ahmedabad.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 55 league matches will be played in Mumbai while 15 will be played in Pune. Each team will play four matches at Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium, while three at Brabourne Stadium and MCA Stadium.

“The IPL will start on March 26, the full schedule is coming soon. We will also have crowds but as per Maharashtra government policy. Government instructions will decide whether it will be 25 or 50 percent of the stadium’s capacity,” IPL President Brijesh Patel told Cricbuzz.

According to various reports, the playoff stage of the elite T20 tournament will be played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, but Patel stated that the IPL Governing Council will decide on the playoffs at a later date.

IPL 2022, which will see the addition of two new teams in the Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans, will see an increase of 14 league stage matches.

The Chennai Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni, will be looking to defend their title and equal the Mumbai Indians’ record of having the most IPL trophies. Previously, the IPL 2022 Mega Auction was held in Bangalore on February 12 and 13, where the ten franchises bought their favorite players and compiled their squads for the next season of the T20 extravaganza.
