List of ICC T20 World Cup 2021 Qualifying Team

The ICC T20 2021 World Cup is scheduled to begin on October 17 in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. A total of 16 teams have qualified for the seventh season of the T20 World Cup. T20 WC 2021 is divided into two stages. The first stage is called the Round 1 stage in which the teams from the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 qualifying tournament are placed.

Furthermore, the Round 1 stage is also subdivided into two groups, Group A and Group B. Here is all the detailed information about the ICC T20 Qualifying Teams.

According to the format of the ICC T20 2021 World Cup, six teams qualified for the seventh season of T20 WC after competing in the qualifiers of the ICC T20 2021 World Cup that took place in 2019.

The final six teams that made it to the 2021 T20 World Cup qualifying round were Ireland, Namibia, the Netherlands, Scotland, Papua New Guinea, and the 2021 T20 World Cup host team, Oman.

Whereas, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh did not qualify for the Super 12 stage in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Therefore, they will also have to compete between these qualifying teams.

1.Sri Lanka

According to the rules, Sri Lanka did not qualify among the top eight countries in the ICC T20 team rankings before the ICC T20 World Cup qualifying tournament.

Therefore, ICC placed Sri Lanka in Group A of Stage 1 of the Round. This is quite embarrassing for the Sri Lankan cricket team as they once held the T20 world title in 2012 and now have to compete with the other qualified teams at the Round 1 stage.

2.Ireland

Ireland were not among the top eight ranked teams in the ICC T20 Teams standings prior to the 2021 T20 World Cup. Therefore, they had to compete in the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers that took place in UAE in 2019.

Ireland finished in the qualifying tournament after defeating Namibia in third place in the 27-run tiebreaker. Now, they are placed in Group A of the Round 1 stage in the 2021 T20 World Cup between Sri Lanka, the Netherlands and Namibia.

3. Netherland

The Netherlands participated in the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers to qualify for the 2021 T20 World Cup. They finished at the top of the table after defeating Papua New Guinea in the final match of the 2021 WC T20 Qualifiers. .

Therefore, they qualified for the 2021 T20 World Cup. Now, they are in Group A of the Round 1 stage in the 2021 T20 World Cup between Sri Lanka, Namibia, and Ireland.

4. Namibia

Namibia is one of six qualifying teams that finally reached the first round of the T20 World Cup after competing in the 2021 T20 World Cup qualifiers. They finished fourth after losing the third-place play-off match against Ireland. for 27 races.

However, they were among the top six teams that finished at the top of the table after the end of the 2021 World Cup Qualifiers tournament. Now, they are located between the Netherlands, Sri Lanka and Ireland in Group A of stage. 1 of the Round.

Group B

5. Bangladesh

Besides Sri Lanka, Bangladesh is the second test nation to compete in the Round 1 stage of the 2021 T20 World Cup. They were unable to place among the top eight ranked teams in the ICC T20 team rankings.

Therefore, they will have to compete in the Round 1 stage to qualify for the Super 12 stage. ICC has placed Bangladesh in Group B of the Round 1 stage between Oman, Scotland and Papua New Guinea.

6. Oman

Oman participated in the 2021 T20 World Cup Qualifiers tournament as the host country. They were among the top six teams that after fighting in the qualifying tournament reached the 2021 T20 World Cup. After defeating Hong Kong by 12 runs in the Qualifier 4 match, they lost fifth place in the tiebreaker match against Scotland for 5 plots.

Therefore, they secured sixth place in the 2021 T20 World Cup qualifying tournament. Now, they are placed in Group B of Stage 1 of the Round by ICC between Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea and Scotland.

7. Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea finished second in the 2021 ICC World Cup T20 Qualifiers tournament in 2021. They lost the final match of the qualifying tournament to the Netherlands by 7 wickets. Therefore, they secured second place in the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup qualifying tournament. Now, they are placed in Group B of Round 1 stage between Oman, Bangladesh and Scotland.

8. Scotland

Scotland was among the top six teams in the 2021 ICC World Cup T20 Qualifiers tournament that made it to the 2021 World Cup T20 tournament.

They defeated the host nation of the ICC T20 2021 World Cup Qualifiers, Oman, in fifth place in the tie-breaker match by 5 wickets. Thus, Scotland secured the fifth position in the qualifying tournament. Now, they are placed in Group B of the Round 1 Stage between Bangladesh, Oman and Papua New Guinea.

Super 12 stage

According to the ICC T20 2021 World Cup rules, eight teams that ranked first in the ICC T20 Team Ranking before the ICC T20 2021 World Cup Qualifiers, reached the Super 12 Stage. They include Australia, New Zealand, England, the West Indies, South Africa, India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

1. Australia

Despite winning the ICC Cricket World Cup five times, Australia has never been able to win the T20 World Cup title. They qualified for the semi-finals in two T20 World Cups and were runners-up in the third tournament. However, one of the more dominant teams has yet to claim its first T20 title.

Australia is currently in seventh place in the ICC T20 team standings. They secured the best place among the top eight teams in the ICC T20 team classification before the 2021 ICC World Cup qualifiers. Therefore, they directly qualified for the Super 12 stage according to the T20 World Cup rules.

ICC has placed Australia in Group 1 of the Super 12 stage between England, South Africa and the West Indies. Later they will be joined by teams B1 and A2 from the first round of Group 2.

2. England

Former T20 world champions England are currently in first place in the ICC T20 team standings. They secured the best place among the top eight teams in the ICC T20 Team Rankings prior to the Qualifying tournament. Therefore, they were allowed to be included in the Super 12 stage.

They have been placed in Group 1 of the Super 12 stage between Australia, West Indies and South Africa. Later, England will join teams B1 and A 2 from the first round in Group 2

3. South Africa

Despite qualifying for the semi-finals in multiple T20 World Cup tournaments, South Africa has never won the T20 World Cup title. They are one of the few nations that play events that have yet to win their first T20 World Cup. South Africa currently ranks fifth in the ICC T20 team rankings.

They secured a good place in the ICC Team T20 rankings prior to the Qualifiers tournament. They then qualified directly for the Super 12 stage of the 2021 T20 World Cup. South Africa ranks in Group 1 of the Super 12 stage with Australia, West Indies, England and two other teams qualified from Stage 1 of the Round.

4. West Indies

The West Indies are the defending champions and only two-time T20 World Cup champions in tournament history. They currently occupy 10th place in the ICC T20 team rankings. However, they were among the top eight teams in the ICC T20 Team standings prior to the T20 World Cup Qualifiers tournament. Hence, they directly qualified for the Super 12 stage.

ICC has placed the West Indies in Group 1 of the Super 12 stage with Australia, South Africa and England. They will be joined by two qualified teams from the Round 1 stage later in the tournament.

5. Afghanistan

Afghanistan was one of the luckiest teams to make it straight to the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup. According to the rules of the T20 World Cup, Afghanistan ranked among the top eight teams in the ICC T20 Team ranking before the T20 World Cup qualifying tournament.

Therefore, they were allowed to join the Super 12 stage. Afghanistan is placed in Group 2 of the Super 12 stage with India, Pakistan, New Zealand and two other qualifying teams.

6. India

India became the first T20 World Cup champion in the inaugural season, after defeating Pakistan in the 2007 T20 World Cup final. Since then, India has hoped to regain the title.

They currently occupy second place in the ICC T20 team rankings. Furthermore, they were among the top eight teams to secure the top eight spots in the ICC T20 team rankings prior to the T20 World Cup qualifying tournament. Therefore, ICC assigned Group 2 of the Super 12 stage to the Indian Cricket team.

7. Pakistan

Since the inaugural season, Pakistan has been one of the dominant teams to have played in the tournament. They won the T20 World Cup in 2009 and were runners-up in the inaugural season against India. Not only this, they also qualified for the semi-finals in the 2010 and 2012 T20 World Cup tournament.

Given their previous T20 World Cup records, Pakistan finished in the top eight teams in the ICC T20 Team standings prior to the T20 World Cup qualifiers. Therefore, they qualified directly for the Super 12 stage. Pakistan is placed in Group 2 of the Super 12 stage by ICC with Afghanistan, India, and New Zealand.

8. New Zealand

New Zealand qualified for the semi-finals twice in the T20 World Cup tournaments but never made it to the final. They currently occupy fourth place in the ICC T20 team rankings. Additionally, New Zealand also took one of the top eight spots in the ICC T20 Team Rankings prior to the T20 WC Qualifiers tournament. Therefore, ICC placed them on the Super 12 stage.

New Zealand is included in Group 2 of the Super 12 stage with Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and two other qualifying teams.
