Information about the Pakistan Super League

Pakistan Super League or PSL is a premium franchise-based league in Pakistan. It is organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board and the main sponsor of the League is Habib Bank Limited. PSL was founded in Lahore on September 9, 2015 with five teams. The first season of the PSL began on February 4, 2016. 2016 was the debut year of the Pakistan Super League.

In 2018, the sixth team made its entry with the name of Multan Sultan. Shoiab Malik was the Captian of Multan Sultans in the 2018 and 2019 seasons. In 2015, franchises bought commercial rights for ten years at $ 93 million. According to a stock market trader, Mr. Arif Habib, the market value of PSL in 2017 was up to US $ 300 million.

The Seasons PSL runs between February and March of each year. In the first season, five teams participated in the tournament and since 2018 there are a total of six teams. Each team plays a double round-robin format. The top four teams qualify for the playoffs and then two of them play Final of the PSL to win the Championship.

For security reasons, the first season of the Pakistan Super League was played in the United Arab Emirates. In the second season, the last game was played in Lahore, where Peshawar Zalmi defeated Quetta Gladiators to become the new PSL champion. As security threats are eliminated now, PCB decided to organize the entire tournament in Pakistan. From the PSL 2020, the entire tournament will be held in Pakistan.

History of PSL Teams

For the first season of PSL PCB sold 5 franchises to 7 bidders on December 3, 2015 for a total price of $ 93 million. In 2017, PCB invited bidders to buy the sixth franchise for PSL. In this tender, more than 40 national and international parties participated and Schon Properties bought the Multan Sultans franchise for $ 5.2 million per year as the most expensive equipment.
