Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most-watched sporting events in the world. Cricket fans around the world see this epic tournament held every year, and that is the most important reason behind the increase in their brand value.
According to Duff and Phelps, a global advisory firm that protects, restores and maximizes value for customers, the Indian league T20 has grown 7% in overall valuation and reached $ 6.8 billion in 2019. In 2018, it was US $ 6.3 billion.
In terms of INR, the value of the IPL ecosystem increased by approximately 13.5% of INR 41,800 crores to INR 47,500 crores. When it comes to individual franchisees, depending on their performance, some have increased the value of their brand, while others have witnessed a decline.
Let’s take a look at all IPL franchisees and their brand value:
The winner of the inaugural season of the cash-rich league, Rajasthan Royals, hasn’t shown up since then, despite having big names like Steve Smith and Ben Stokes. And due to the constant low performance in IPL, the Jaipur-based franchise saw the brand value drop to INR 271 million rupees from INR 284 million rupees in 2018.
One of the highest yields of IPL is Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Although they spend a lot of money each season on the acquisition of the best names, they have not yet been able to lift the coveted trophy. In the twelve seasons so far, KXIP has reached the first four only twice. However, they have witnessed an increase in the value of their brand to INR 358 million rupees.
Delhi Capitals (DC), based in the national capital, witnessed a change in its fortune after changing the name of Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals. However, they are still looking for their first IPL title. The value of the DC brand after IPL 2019 was INR 374 crore.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has always been a team that looks promising and has performed well at times. Under the David Warner captaincy, SRH won the 2016 edition of the tournament. The Hyderabad-based team has a brand value of Rs 483 crore.
One of the most popular IPL teams, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had a bad run in the last two seasons. The team led by Virat Kohli reached the IPL final in 2016, but lost the competition against SRH. The team full of stars is valued at Rs 595 crore.
